Peninsula community

The San Francisco Peninsula stretches from San Francisco County through San Mateo County, encompassing two dozen cities and towns arranged along the bayside and ridge roads between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. San Carlos occupies the mid-peninsula, just south of San Francisco International Airport, in terrain that slopes from the bay marshlands up to redwood forests and ridgelines. The peninsula has shaped the region's character since Spanish colonization in 1769; today it is home to more than a million people across diverse neighborhoods.

The San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Department stewards parks throughout the peninsula region, including Coyote Point Recreation Area, a 670-acre park offering beaches, trails, sailing, and the CuriOdyssey science museum with native California wildlife. San Mateo County also operates libraries, recreational programs, and community facilities that serve San Carlos residents as part of the broader peninsula community.

For families on the peninsula, proximity to both urban job centers and open space creates a particular planning challenge: the need to protect both a mortgage and the years of raising children in a high-cost area. A term life policy sized to cover the mortgage and cost of living is how most peninsula families keep their commitment to the people who depend on them.
